Our Mission
Our mission in this site is to put our little grain of salt to help promote the protection of animals in Puerto Rico and around the world. Our bloggers bring in topics that pertain to animal issues. We support a local animal sanctuary focused on sheltering dogs and cats. Their resources are scarce but their labor is immeasurably valuable. This forum presents real cases that are local and international. The blog is in English so that we can have greater global access, plus are bloggers are English writing animal advocates! A Spanish version is a milestone that we are hoping to achieve as soon as we have the perfect virtual volunteer! We also want to use this website to help our community come out of the “dark” and speak up, when it comes to the terrible situation animals are going through in OUR beloved Puerto Rico. In this forum you will find REAL and current cases of animals that have been abandoned and have been rehabilitated, or are being rehabilitated, at the shelter for a future happy adoptive ending. Let us know if you are interested in taking any of these jewels home or simply adopting one at a distance for a small monthly donation for any of the animals here portrayed.
Our Vision
The vision we see is the country of Puerto Rico educated about animal rights. We see owners turning into guardians. We see people developing a sense of care for animals. We see animal abuse diminish. We see the possibility of having a less violent society. in the present and future, through the education of our children. We see that people care a lot. We see that this mission is not in vain. We see our animals in loving, caring homes.
And most of all, we want to help people discover the reality that adult animals are a great choice for adoption, every bit as good as puppies and kittens. Many of these animals have distinct personalities that can be predictable and easier to match with their perfect companion. The descriptions on these animals are accurate and true. And if you are true to yourself you will realize that your perfect pet is just around the next page.
An Animal sanctuary, what is it?
An animal shelter is a facility that houses homeless, lost or abandoned animals; primarily a large variety of dogs and cats. …en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal shelter. Shelters practice euthanasia (killing animals via a humane lethal injection), to control their numbers of animals. In the other hand, a sanctuary uses other methods like rehabilitation and adoption to control its population. In a sanctuary, animals receive cares like: Vaccinations, medications, and attention through a daily schedule of activities like exercise time, social time, bath time, rest time and fun time with other dogs. It is literally a loving home for unwanted pets.
The sanctuary affiliated to this site, Santuario de Animales San Francisco de Asis, is a “no kill shelter”. At this special shelter, animals are given a chance to rehabilitate, to be healthy and to find a loving home. Animals are not “put to sleep”. Eventhough their resources are threatened daily due to space limitations and lack of funds, their goal is to:
Always provide animals in need with a safe and clean place to live, good food, attention, and love, no matter what, until we can find that special someone looking for a lifetime companion.
The shelter has been operating unofficially for the past 9 years. Mrs. Madeline, its caretaker and Animal Angel, basically would lovingly take in ANY dog or cat people abandoned on the streets, and with her limited resources would care for them. However, very quickly, the amount of dogs was accumulating since rescues of the abandoned was far outpacing adoptions. Thanks to the care and attention of the community and local businesses, they have been able to organize and launch a plan that will take the shelter from this desperate position of need to a position of service to the community, and one with the tools to find that special family to adopt every deserving animals there.
What Can You Do?
You can offer some of your time on the week ends or afternoons.
You can offer your home as a temporary shelter for abandoned or hurt animals.
You can spread the word and ask others to help.
You can collect dog and/or cat food around your neighborhood.
You can donate materials or anything you think could help our cause.
The absolute easiest way you can help is to email the link to SAFAPR.ORG to your friends, add it to your Facebook, mySpace, or Linked in profiles, or just bring it up at work or while spending time with friends. This simple gesture by you may result in many animals finding loving homes. Why not try do it now?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
