The Santuario de Animales San Francisco de Asis invited all of the community to its first Voluntaries Staff Meeting celebrated on Saturday December 6, 2008 at the Museum of Proceres in the town of Cabo Rojo (Rebeca Colberg Complex).

The Voluntaries are the heart of our organization. If you have a special talent, or just love animals and would like to give some of your time, please don’t miss this opportunity to help these little angels in our Sanctuary.

The activity started at 2pm.

The “Museo de los Próceres de Cabo Rojo”(The Cabo Rojo Leading Men Museum)
includes a sculpture exhibition of national leaders, an Indian culture gallery, exhibits of Puerto Rican contemporary artists, a collection of paintings and a theater for plays and conferences (source).

Follow Up:

“First of all we would like to thank our Cabo Rojo Mayor Perza Rodriguez for allowing us to use the facilities of the beautiful museum of Cabo Rojo for our First Volunteers Meeting last saturday, december 6th, 2008. It was a great experience.

We had a welcome table where more than 40 visitors signed up their names.  They were prompted  to the receptionist table where they could find various handouts and information regarding the sanctuary, the volunteers positions and the new 154 law.

We had visitors from Aguadilla, Mayaguez, Cabo Rojo, Guanica, San German, and Aguada. No one from the government, the Tourism Office or the Mayor’s office was represented.”  -President Dellymar Bernal

The activity commenced with a beautiful invocation by Gianinna Torres. Our President Dellymar Bernal gave the welcome to all, explaining what the Sanctuary is and its purpose of being in our community.  Right after, Ilia Muriente proceeded with a very sad and unfortunate true presentation depicting the crisis our animals are suffering in Puerto Rico, thus focusing on presenting specific cases of our town of Cabo Rojo. After giving some alarming statistics and information on this social problem, Gianinna Torres, our Sanctuary’s Special Agent, went on to describing the different Voluntary positions the organization plans to hire. The program continued with a Q&A section, a shirt raffle and a humble reception in the beautiful grounds of the Museo de los Proceres at the Rebecca Colberg’s grounds in Cabo Rojo.

“This was the first meeting, and it exceeded our expectations. The community was receptive and very willing to help. We had firemen, accountats, homemakers, students, retired citizens, business owners, and other caring and willing citizens from our community. Our plan is to start our programs with this staff and evolve from there. We will be focusing on Animal Total Care, our basic needs like water and electricity, and the adoptions program for the next few months. After our staff is trained, we will be expanding our programs as planned.

We want to make sure that no activity or protocol sacrifices our attention from the animals.

When we get more funds and our staff is ready to expand we will expand our outreach program in which our current administrators are  currently taking care of.

Again, we thank all those who made this possible, like Pastor Max Santiago from Vida con Proposito Church in Cabo Rojo who let them borrow their InFocus projector, which they used for their presentation. Pueblo Extra of Cabo Rojo, Walgreens of Mayaguez Mall, Accounting and Tax Crew of Cabo Rojo, Shell Gas Station of Mayaguez Mall and the Municipio de Cabo Rojo for their help, support and donations for this activity.

We also want to thank our volunteers, our webmaster and all those who day by day make this project duable.
